Amy Bauder-Sauve
educational assistant in Kingston, Ontario
Hey there, I’m Amy.
I've been an educational assistant since 2018, working mainly in grades 7-12. I am currently working in a high school school-to-community classroom where I feel most at home.
I love my job in education and aspire to take my recent bachelor's degree in history from Queen's to the next level and obtain a Bachelor of Education. In the fall of 2024, I became the first in my family to graduate from university, and I'm pretty proud of the example I have set for my daughter, nieces and nephews. If Mom/Mimi can do it in her 40's, it's never too late to follow a dream.
Prior to attending Queen's, I attended St. Lawrence College and have an advanced diploma in Child and Youth Care and also studied Autism and Behavioural Science. Both of which have helped me immensely in the work that I do now.
I was born and raised in Kingston, Ontario, where I have also raised my own family. I am a mom to a 20-year-old daughter who is currently attending college.
Some of my many interests include furthering my education, singing karaoke with friends, my two little dogs Betty and Bailey, spending time with my family, watching the stars and history documentaries.
Initially I entered the post-graduate certificate in Workplace Training and Development because I was interested in potentially teaching at the college level after having left Potsdam University’s teachers education program in NYS because the costs of international education was too high to continue, However, recent college downsizing has made me question that, and I am now waiting to apply for teachers college at Queen’s and get back on track to teaching in the public school system. Sometimes life has a way of telling you where you are supposed to be, and I believe this is one of those instances. Because I was 2 classes into the certificate, I chose to continue because I was enjoying the courses that I was taking and learning a lot of great tools and skills to take into my future career, and I hope to continue doing so by taking this course. UDL is a big part of teaching for inclusive classrooms.
I look forward to working with you all,
Cheers,
Amy
