Beatrice Toner

Administrative Support, Childcare, and Community Engagement in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

My name is Beatrice Toner. My pronouns are she/her. I am grateful to be living and working on the beautiful territory of the Songhees and Esquimalt peoples.

I am currently employed at Saanich Neighbourhood Place. I wear to hats within the organization: providing administrative support, and doing community engagement for the Victoria Early Years Centre.

Between Fall 2015 and Summer 2017, I was assistant out-of-schol care manager at Fairfield-Gonzales Community Association, overseeing before- and after-school care for over 70 children ages 4 to 10 years old.

In 2017, I had the amazing opportunity to work in a remote part of Vancouver Island, at Strathcona Park Lodge, providing administrative support for their guest services department.

I have been very fortunate to be part of the team at Little Mountain Art School, a nature & art daycare in Victoria, as a substitute teacher.

I also do some private French and Math tutoring with children and youth. I am currently living in Victoria, British Columbia. Before moving to Victoria four years ago, I lived in Montreal, Quebec, the city where I grew up.

I graduated from the University of Victoria in 2017 with BA in Gender Studies and Indigenous Studies. I am a passionate feminist, particularly interested in applying anti-oppressive frameworks in the childcare work that I do. I thrive in community-settings, where I have the opportunity to foster long-term relationships with the families I work with.

I am a keen cyclist, something I am delighted to be able to pursue year-round in the temperate climate of Victoria. I love cooking for myself and my friends. I'm learning ceramics, printmaking and sewing!
