Breanna Garvin is a native of Detroit, Michigan and began photography in her sophmore year of college. Not having prior art education, she always had an interest in creative expression, in which she opted to study Studio Art during her college years. Breanna discovered her love for art during her undergradute years as opposed to others who learn early on. She then concentrated in Photography after her first Black and White photography course. Immediately she was drawn to the capablities of what photography could produce as a result of her first photography course. Breanna experimented with different mediums such as painting and drawing, and other forms of photography such as film, cyanotypes, etc. She became engrossed with the process of concept, digital, then print. Always having been interested in empowerment, culture, and identity, she began projects merging that with photography. In her Film Photography class is where she began working with the concept of empowerment. Learning the process of development and contact printing motivated her to futher her interests in photography. She has drawn inspiration of her concepts from her background as being innercity raised, her culture and history. Piecing together people's lives experiences through a storytelling method, diversity and culture is what in which she is most interested. Being raised in the city seeing violence, struggle, ambition, passion, and many more things she allows that to become infused into her work process. She works primarily with digital photography, and secondarily with drawing and painting mediums. Her motto is “Just a witness and documentor of the potential the naked eye can't see.” She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art.. She now works in Ferndale and is developing old and new concepts in her photography work.© BeeambitionPhoto
