Rachel Roberts

Writer, Editor, and Data analyst in Abingdon, United Kingdom

With a BSc in Biology, an MSc in Soil Science and a PhD in Agriculture, plus work experience with the NHS, Forestry Commission and learned societies I have a solid and diverse scientific background.

But through my studies it became increasingly apparent that I was pretty good at communicating with a non-scientific audience, and that not all scientists are great at this.

So instead of pursuing that postdoc I decided to use my superpowers to save scientists and businesses from crap graphs and flabby writing.

You can’t scare me: I’ve augered in the pouring rain (in an arsenic mine), done hundreds of PCRs (some of which even worked) and tidied up data downloaded from prehistoric scientific equipment.

I’ve worked with swathes of children.

I use cloth nappies with my son.

I’m now officially bulletproof.

So, from blog posts to white papers to infographics; from single-paper projects to month-long salvage operations, I can help you.

>> What I can do for you <<

I am very good at taking complex information and making it simple.

This might be raw data that needs tidying and presenting, or a collection of jottings and tables that need compiling into a report. Or a godawful spreadsheet that needs reining in.

I love playing with data and making it beautiful.

I love finding the key message hidden in a mountain of information.

I love making order out of chaos.

>> What I cannot do for you <<

While I am a highly trained scientist with awesome spreadsheet, writing and data presentation skills, I am not a statistician. Neither am I an marketing expert. Sorry about that.
