Trends Millenials Want to See in New Semi-Custom Homes

Millennials, or those that were born between 1981 and 1997, make up a huge percentage of those that have mortgages. This generation knows exactly what they want in a house and will look until they find it. Here we will go over the top trends millennials want to see in new semi-custom homes.

The exterior of the home matters to this age group. They have been known to prefer three types of houses. The first one is the pre WWII homes. These homes are made from frames and wood with stucco and brick and stone. They have lots of charm and character and an Old World style to them.

The next exterior is mid-century homes. These sleek styled homes have a 50s flair to them. They may contain flat or pitched styles roofs with triangular windows.

And finally, the third most popular exterior is the Mediterranean style home. These houses will have a Spanish or Italian detailed look with tile ceilings, stucco interiors, and open floor plans.

Moving inside, Millennials want to see various trends in their new semi-custom homes. In the kitchen they want a convection oven with a six-burner range. They like granite countertops but are not opposed to exotic ones either. They want exhaust fans that are super quiet. This age group looks for uniqueness, such as a built-in wine cooler, built-in stainless steel dishwasher that is a top of the line product, and Sub-Zero refrigerators.

The living room should be connected with the kitchen so there is one wide-open space. Millennials like to entertain, therefore, having the kitchen and living room as one will provide ample room to do so.

The bathroom is a look that is important to this generation. They want to see lots of stone and glass used. Millennials like the vessel sinks in various colors and shapes. Asian-style vanities are a hot trend popping up right now. Brushed nickel is the finish of choice with double handled faucets that are mounted on the walls. Low-rise toilets or bidets are a popular choice in new semi-custom homes for this age group.

This generation prefers earth tones in shades of green, blue, and brown. If they are to contrast, it will be a sharp one, such as one red wall.

Millennials want large back yards for their children with their new semi-custom homes. They prefer to have spaces where they can entertain outside with an outdoor kitchen or a grill. They love patios and decks with plenty of space for anyone they entertain.
