coach in New York
My full name is Olugbemi Otulaja, however most people call me Bemi for short. I am a first generation Nigerian American. I was born in Brooklyn, New York and I stayed there until sixth grade when my family moved to Long Island. I lived in Long Island until I graduated high school and decided to attend Marist College as a undergrad. I was actually recruited to be a part of the Marist football program from high school. I stayed at Marist for two years as a undergraduate but then decided to transfer to the University of Maryland where I earned an athletic scholarship and graduated with a American Studies degree.
After graduation, I had a opportunity to play football professionally. I tried out for some NFL teams and eventually ended up in Waukena, Wisconsin where I spent time with an Arena Football team called the Milwaukee Iron. After that experience, I decided to retire from playing football. I worked various jobs including a bank teller, security, DJ, and football coach.
Most recently I have started my career as a football coach. I have worked in St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, Hudson Valley Community College and for the past year I have be with the Marist football program as an assistant coach. I coach the defensive line and I also am the social media coordinator for the program. I was also the social media coordinator for St. Lawrence and Hudson Valley football programs.
My experience as a social media coordinator stems from my time as a DJ. I had to promote my business while as a new face in a new territory and with the growth of social media, I was able to enhance my exposure on campus by utilizing Facebook, Instagram and Twitter..
I am a sports fan, obviously a football fan specifically a Cowboys fan. I root for the Yankees, Knicks & Nets, Red Foxes and Terps. I do not have much free time but I like to watch The Walking Dead, Blacklist, stand up comedy and various sitcoms.
