Lessons with Ben Plotnick
Let me introduce myself – my name is Ben Plotnick. I’m a violinist, violist, guitarist and composer from Calgary, recently relocated to Toronto. I’ve spent the bulk of my 26 years to date playing in Orchestras, chamber music groups, celtic bands, bluegrass ensembles, country recording sessions, jazz combos, and in just about any other context where you might find a violin. By the time I turned 19, I was Assistant Director of the Calgary Fiddlers Association, I’d performed as a soloist with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, studied jazz violin at Humber College, and created a fiddle camp by myself. I’ve written, recorded, produced and released 6 albums, for various groups and solo projects.
My experience in music is deep and diverse, and I’ve enjoyed with students from age 4 to adult, teaching classical music or bluegrass, or anything in between. I’ve taught as many as 35 annual private students, in addition to being on the faculty at dozens of camps and workshops, over the years, teaching in private and group settings. My experience playing in so many different contexts has given me a unique perspective on switching between them.
My new program at Red House Music Academy (Dundas / Ossington) will consist of (pending enrollment):
- Private instruction in Classical Violin, Folk Fiddle and Jazz violin, Music Theory and Viola.
- Improvisation classes for intermediate violinists and fiddlers
- An Adult fiddle class for novice-intermediate players
- A youth fiddle group.
Violin lessons with me at Red House Music are $30/half hour, $40/45 minutes, $50/hour.
