Ben Barton
Student in Macon, GA
My name is Ben Barton, and I’m going into my sophomore year at the University of Georgia. All my life, I’ve known that I wanted my future career to be something that would help people. However, up until recently I didn’t know exactly what that would look like. In the past couple of years, I have decided that my goal is to go to medical school after my undergraduate degree is finished. As of now, I want to try and get into orthopedic surgery, but I know there’s a lot of steps in between where I am now and that goal, so I’m keeping my options open as to which specific medical route I’m going to pursue. I’m also getting a minor in general business. This is because I would like to eventually open my own clinic somewhere in the rural southeast, in a place where there isn’t great medical coverage. I’m from middle Georgia, so I grew up in and around areas that are often underrepresented as far as medical care options go. I would love to go to a medical school in Georgia, or maybe Alabama. The university of Georgia will open a medical school the year that I’m supposed to graduate, so I am hoping that could be a potential option for the future.
