Benjamin D Brewer, PhD
I am an economic sociologist interested in world-historical and world-systemic social change, global inequalities, sport, popular culture, and many other things.
Most of my work has focused broadly on changes in the global division of labor and their impact on the global distribution of wealth, status and power.
At JMU, I teach classes on globalization, “development,” and methods of inquiry. I hope to add a course on economic sociology and reading and/or senior seminars on the global sport economy, the historical sociology of consumer culture and “Marx, Smith, Markets and Capitalism” before too long.
