"Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work."
My name is Ben Couey. I grew up on a farm in South Georgia and have lived there my entire life- until now. The county I lived in was so small that it only had two traffic lights. Coming to Athens has been an extremely large step up for me, because I am used to living in such a small town. The change, however drastic, has been nice. I have met people that I would otherwise never have known existed, and have made friends that will last a lifetime. I have always been a strong supporter of change, because I think that the lives we live would be incredibly boring and monotone if we always stayed in our comfort zones. This is why I wanted to go to the University of Georgia. I went from having classes with less than 20 students to having classes with over 300. I cannot imagine myself anywhere but here. Change is also why I am majoring in mechanical engineering. I think that we owe it to the people that have come before us, and the people who will come after us, to do as much as we can to change the way the world works and help to make it a better place for everyone that lives here. With a degree in engineering, I hope to help be a part of that change.
