Benjamin Kelly is a senior at Goshen College in Goshen, Ind. He is pursuing a degree in broadcasting along with a Spanish minor anticipating graduation in April of 2013.
He is the sports director at the college's radio station, WGCS-FM 91.1 the Globe, and broadcasts high school football and basketball for the Regional Radio Sports Network. Over the course of his collegiate career, Kelly has called over 200 sporting events including soccer, volleyball, football, basketball and baseball games.
The past two summers, Kelly has worked as an intern with the South Bend Silver Hawks, the Low-A class affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He worked on the video production team; assisted Silver Hawk play-by-play broadcaster, Travis Lucian; conducted radio and television pregame interviews; cut and voiced highlight packages following games; called a few innings of play-by-play; and occasionally served as the public address announcer.
Kelly is a multi-dimensional broadcaster, also working as television sports anchor for his college's television program, GCTV. He is a four-year sports anchor of the GCTV news program "The Correspondent" and has also produced and anchored his own sports show, "Sports ReLeaf," for the past three years.
The native of Omaha, Neb., Kelly possesses a deep passion for baseball and sports in general. He has garnered numerous awards for his work nationally from industry professional associations such as Broadcast Education Association, Intercollegiate Broadcast Systems and College Broadcasters Inc. He has received awards from both the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters and Indiana Broadcasters Association.
For the 2012-2013 academic year, Kelly was awarded one of the largest scholarships of $2,700 ever distributed by the Indiana Broadcasters Association for his commitment and excellence in radio and television broadcasting.
He is a four-year scholarship baseball player for Goshen College.
