Ben Smith Sac County
Ben Smith is proud Iowa is his home. A lifelong Conservative Republican, Ben’s small-town values were instilled by his parents, John and Connie Smith, who reside in Lake View. Ben appreciates the value of family, having learned many lessons from his grandfather, a farmer and World War II Veteran, and his grandmother, a retired nurse living in Lake View.
Born of a desire to serve, to see justice done, to enhance and protect our quality of life, Ben wants to be your county attorney. Having lived in a number of other states and communities, he has returned to Sac County because he believes no better place to call home exists. With the safety of you and your family as his foremost concern, it is Ben’s desire as county attorney to enforce the law in a consistent, fair, and respectful manner, all while ensuring justice is done.
A fifth generation Sac County resident, Ben was born in Sac City and raised in Lake View, where he graduated from Wall Lake View-Auburn High School, and was recognized as an accomplished athlete and vocalist. He continued his education locally at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge and Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and political science. While at Buena Vista, Ben was recognized as “Senior of the Year,” was the lead in the all-school musical, and earned high honors in the classroom as well as on the field where he was named to the all-American football team.
Having learned the importance of setting and achieving goals, Ben went on to graduate from the law school at Drake University. While a full-time student at Drake, he worked as a law clerk for the Iowa Attorney General’s Office. After receiving his law degree with honors, Ben was admitted to practice law in Iowa.
Ben is proud to serve in our armed forces. As a First Lieutenant in the Iowa Army National Guard, he is sharpening his legal skills as part of the Army’s Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps and, as a military officer and soldier, is further developing his already proven abilities as a leader.
Ben is equally proud that he has been able to serve the citizens of the State of Iowa for the last several years as an Assistant Attorney General. In this position, Ben has pursued justice in a fair and consistent manner, and has developed and maintained excellent working relationships with individual county governments, law enforcement agencies on the city, county, and
