Ben Steiner
journalist and Associate Producer in Toronto
Ben Steiner is a full-time student and journalist living in Downtown Toronto, after growing up in Whistler, B.C. He is currently employed by CBC Sports as an associate producer, specializing World Cup alpine skiing, bobsleigh and other ‘high-performance’ sports with the digital team at Canada’s public broadcaster.
Outside of CBC, Steiner is a writer with the Ontario Hockey League and a broadcaster with NBC Peacock on World Cup alpine skiing. 21 years old, Steiner is a third-year student studying sport media at X (Ryerson) University, earning a spot on the Dean’s List twice through his first three years in the program.
Set to graduate in 2023, Steiner is looking to advance his career at the CBC while continuing to showcase Canada’s elite-level athletes. After covering two Olympic Games, remotely, he has his sights set on covering the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Italy.
A former national team athlete, Steiner is able to connect with athletes, combining his experience, with his journalistic skills in order to tell stories that bring readers and viewers into the story on a more personal level.
With a career in sport, Steiner believes the value in telling the stories of those athletes who are not earning millions of dollars in the world’s most-prominent sports leagues.
