Benjamin Tipton

For the past 12 years, Benjamin has been pursuing a deeper understanding of the interactions between markets, the state and civil society. He began his career in the field of international development in S.E. Asia, where he lived and worked for 3 years, then moved to working on international trade policy. His work in Washington, D.C. included being a congressional staff member in the U.S. Senate on international trade, labor and development issues.

After completing his Master's degree in Asia Pacific Policy within the Institute of Asian Research at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada in May 2012, he has been engaged in three pursuits: promoting his expertise of Philanthropy in China, developing Apps for the iPhone, and developing and marketing an invention for the outdoor adventure market.

During his down time, Benjamin spends most of his time in the outdoors or in his workshop. He spends his time fly fishing, rock climbing, backpacking and backcountry skiing; and cultivating bonsai, gardening and woodworking.

Some of his recent activities include:

- An expert and consultant on Philanthropy in China.

- A published author.

- An active member of the Oxfam Canada regional steering committee.
