Bernard “Bernie” Jones is the Vice President of Mass General Brigham Behavioral & Mental Health, helping lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive, enterprise-wide mental health strategy across one of the country’s premier academic health systems. This includes coordination of behavioral health services across all of MGB's sites and levels of care, including at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, McLean Hospital, Salem Hospital, and throughout the community-based settings of Mass General Brigham. These services range from 544 licensed inpatient beds, partial hospital programs, and specialized emergency psychiatry capabilities to advanced neurotherapeutic programs, robust residential programs, and an extensive ambulatory care enterprise.
Bernie also serves as Vice President of the Department of Psychiatry across the MGB Academic Medical Centers, which spans Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital. As its executive administrator, he leads a department with over 2,400 employees and an operating and research budget of approximately $325 million, delivering more than 300,000 patient visits annually across its wide-ranging sites of care.
Previously, Jones held leadership roles at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, managing Behavioral & Mental Health, Primary Care, Community Health Centers, and Ambulatory Services while spearheading policy initiatives in housing insecurity, workforce development, and sustainability. Before that, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the University of California President and worked as a management consultant specializing in leadership and governance at academic medical centers.
He holds a master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a bachelor’s degree from Haverford College.
