BEST P. THOMAS
Social Worker, Counseling Psychologist, and Human Service Specialist in Canada
The novel idea of helping others to help themselves is what attracted me to Social Work. However, later I understood, it was not the idea itself but the underlying need that defined me. - to be a part of solutions that can help people, to be etched in for the society's goodness with an umami subtlety was the magnetism that pulled me towards a professional degree in social work.
During my MSW program, I was fortunate to have experiences in various fields through fieldwork. These trainings helped me propel towards a career in, medical and psychiatry social work. Through the opportunities that I have received from hospital settings as a hired clinician have made me confident and equipped in direct and indirect social work skills like case management, psychosocial assessment, counselling and psychotherapy, crisis intervention, brokering, management, rehabilitation and recovery, training…etc. This was all possible by following social work ethics and strong frameworks like trauma informed practice, anti-oppressive approach, strengths based and solution oriented approach, management principles…etc. and most importantly through the collaborative care. Within social work/ human services my other interests are, research, general management, student counseling, policy analysis and advocacy, human resource management, fundraising, CSR and community development.
