One of the main worries that we see from parents who come to our open houses or who sign their children up throughout the other times we offer this during the year, are those worries about how well their child is going to adjust. We completely sympathize with this worry! After all, we had much of the same worries when our child began daycare. However, you can rest assure that the children of our facility are treated with respect, love and we care about their well-being.
However, for those parents who are worried that this adjustment is going to be too hard for their children, there are a few things you can do to make this easier!
Visit the Daycare
One of the best ways to make your child feel more comfortable about coming to daycare is to visit the facility before they are ready to start. This way the child does not feel as though they are being dropped off in an unfamiliar location with faces they do not recognize. Take the time to walk through the facility, meet the caretakers and let your child meet these people as well. Your child needs to know that this is a safe place to come, and this is what your end goal is.
Find Fun Ways to Talk about Daycare
crayons-1445054_1920If you are nervous, your child is going to be picking up on this, which in turn may make them more nervous. Therefore, take some time to talk about daycare, and make this fun. For example, sit down together and draw pictures about what daycare is going to be like. You could draw kids playing on a playground. The idea is to make daycare sound like fun…because in the end they are going to have fun!
Make Time for the First Day
While many parents are in a hurry to drop off their kids at daycare and get on their way, do realize that dropping your kids off for the first day may require some extra time. There many parents who want to simple sneak out and hope that the child pays no attention, however, this could bring about feelings of abandonment for the kids. So take some extra time, stick around and get them settled, so that they know you are going to come back and this is a safe place.
The first day of daycare for any child can be difficult. They are being put into a new situation, but luckily, kids are very resilient when it comes to changes. And most kids go home on their first day having made some great friends and having tons of fun! Click here for Calgary childc
