I am an academic at the Institute for People-Centred AI at the University of Surrey. I specialise in Data & Computational Journalism, data storytelling, data visualisation, and the use of AI in journalism and media.
I sit on the Irish Government's Open Data Governance Board. I am also a founding co-chair of the European Data & Computational Journalism Conference, a steering committee member of the Computation + Journalism Conference, and serve on the editorial board of the Digital Journalism journal.
Prior to joining the University of Surrey, I was at the School of Information & Communication Studies at University College Dublin, where I founded and led UCD Data Journalism Programme.
In my spare time, I snap amateur photos from line and colour rich spaces and create experimental spirographic line art. I am “learning” Spanish, pero soy mala en eso. I enjoy kayaking and am just dipping my toes into stand-up paddle boarding!
