What To Do

While the possibilities are virtually endless, we do have some don’t-miss recommendations.

River-to-Ridge Trail: This 6-mile trail is a mostly level, well-maintained path that courses through rolling hills and farmland. It also includes several stream crossings. Additionally, the River-to-Ridge Trail is a beautiful, relaxing way to access the crown jewel of the area: spectacular Shawangunk Ridge in the Mohonk Preserve.

Mohonk Preserve: You’ll enjoy mountain scenery and mountain trails in this stunning 8000-acre preserve, with options for all skill levels. The “Gunks” is also a world-famous rock climbing destination, and you might have the opportunity to watch expert climbers defy gravity as they practice their craft!

To sweeten things even more, New Paltz Biking offers trips to the preserve. You meet up at the appointed time and place, we shuttle you up the mountain, and then it’s all downhill, in a good way, from there!

Wallkill Valley Rail: Connected to the River-to-Ridge Trail, the Wallkill Valley Rail provides another 22 miles of riding pleasure. It’s flat and features great views and some really interesting bridges.
