Bill O'Meara

I was born October 17, 1950 in The Dalles, Oregon. I spent my first 17 years in Wasco, Oregon. Wasco is located in North Central Oregon. It is a peninsula, bordered on the North by the Columbia River, the East by the John Day River, on the West by the Deschutes River, and finally on the South by Wasco County. I attended Wasco Grade School from 1955 (kindergarten) through 1964 (8th grade). I attended Sherman High School in Moro, Oregon from 1964 to 1968. I graduated from Sherman High School at the age of 17 in 1968. I attended Yakima Valley College in Yakima, Washington for 4 terms from Sept., 1968 until Dec., 1969 and majored in Agriculture Sciences. I transferred to Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham Oregon and attended for 2 terms- Winter and Spring terms, 1970. I completed an Associate of Science degree in June, 1970 from MHCC. I attended Oregon State University for 2 years- Fall, 1970 to Summer, 1972 and graduated at age 21 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. I worked constrruction from the Fall, 1972 until March, 1974. I attended Eastern Oregon State College in LaGrande, Oregon from March, 1974 until March, 1975 and earned my basic certificate to teach Social Studies for grades 5-12. I student taught juniors at La Grande High School, Winter term, 1975. I was hired at Cottrell Elementary near Sandy, Oregon and taught Social Studies for grades 6 through 8 and coached wrestling for the school year, 1975-76. I left Cottrell after 1 school year and went to Wasco Grade School in Wasco, Oregon and taught mainly Social Studies and coached football, basketball, softball, and track. I was at Wasco Grade School for the school years, 1976-78. I left Wasco and went to Hood River Junior High School in 1978. At HRJH which became Hood River Middle School in about 1986, I taught Social Studies. I coached football and basketball for many years. For 10 years I coached Freshman football at Hood River Valley High School. I taught at the Jr. High/ Middle School for 27 years, retiring in 2005. I substituted for 6 years at HRMS, mostly for friends in PE and 7th grade. I have a teaching certificate, good through 10-17-2014. I have officially quit substituting. I live on Dee Flat, near Parkdale, Oregon and take care of and do things with my gransons, Dylan and Timmy Fletcher, I have been married to Kathy O'Meara since 7-24-1994.
