A member of the Villanova University Men’s Basketball Club, Billy Calanca has been playing since his elementary school days. During high school, Calanca dedicated summers to teaching young children the basics of the sport and helping them hone their skills at Vikings Basketball Camp in Stamford, Connecticut. In addition to playing on the Villanova University Men’s Basketball Club team, Billy Calanca serves as one of its Executive Board members. Applying the leadership skills he gained as a camp counselor to service projects conducted through his fraternity, Phi Gamma Delta, Calanca oversaw security and event management for the Villanova Special Olympics. Calanca also serves as Pledge Master for the fraternity, teaching prospective members the history and traditions of the organization. Billy Calanca seeks to capitalize on all the opportunities his University has to offer. In 2009, he traveled to Spain, participating in a summer study abroad program with the University of Cádiz. He refined his Spanish speaking skills through courses with the University and gained an intimate understanding of the country’s culture by living with a host family. An economics major, Billy Calanca strives to develop his academic and professional abilities through employment opportunities within his fields of interest. In 2009, Calanca spent a summer conducting direct-marketing services for Vector Marketing Corporation, selling CUTCO Cutlery products. During that time, Billy Calanca sold more than $11,000 worth of merchandise, earning a New Rep Achievement Award at the Northeast Region 2009 Summer Awards and obtaining an offer to advance to Assistant Manager. Exploring other avenues of business and sales, Billy Calanca spent the next summer interning within the Trade Exhibition department of the International Council of Shopping Centers in New York City, where he created floor plans and assigned booth spaces to exhibitors. Calanca just completed his third year at Villanova University and plans to graduate in May of 2012.
