Hello, I'm Bibi.

I am an undergraduate student at the University of Guelph finishing a degree in Biological Sciences with a minor in Psychology: Brain and Cognition.

My primary areas of study are neuroscience, human biology, and research methods. I enjoy courses that allow me to have an in-depth understanding of the human body and its pathways. I also enjoy courses in statistics and their applications in analyzing data in biological and psychological research.

I am currently doing a research project in cognitive science where I am studying the effect of retrieval practices on learning. I am currently looking at the forward effect of testing, whereby testing previously required material enhances the retrieval of new material, regardless of the content of that material. I do this by testing groups of University of Guelph students on the retention of word lists through a variety of different learning methods. In the upcoming months, I will be exploring the effects that these different methods have on retrieval practice.

My additional interests are in reproductive anatomy, the study of human sexuality, and neuroendocrinology. I hope to pursue post-graduate studies in one of these areas. Specifically, I’d like to study the effects of stress hormones on the reproductive system, and their long term effects on arousal, fertility, and reproductive disorders.

I am inspired by Nicole Prause, an American neuroscientist who specializes in the physiology of sexual response. Prior to becoming a researcher, she studied neuroscience and statistics which are areas of science that interest me the most. She also paved the way for a more biological focus on research in human sexuality, where most of the current research dominated by psychologists, and sociologists.

My career goal is to ultimately use research and literature to educate the public on the importance of understanding the body and sexuality. I enjoy education and learning, and I believe that a more educated public is a more opportunistic and informed one. I would love to help educate people in these areas of research which often go overlooked.

I also have a passion for reptiles, and own a pet corn snake. I hope in the future to own a wider array of pets including a savannah monitor and some more snakes!
