Cary has worked as a radio producer on public radio’s The Leonard Lopate Show and Studio 360, and as a host and producer of the author interview show BookTalk on Sirius XM satellite radio. She was a 2001 Knight Journalism Fellow and has served as a judge for the Society of Professional Journalist's award for excellence in radio for the past two years. Her first published short story, No Shoes in the Ashram, was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She studied fiction with Robert Stone at the Key West Literary Seminar and was a writing resident at Vermont Studio Center in 2013. As a journalist, she has written for Salon, More, New York, Huffington Post, and others. She has an M.A. in literature from the University of Massachusetts and a B.A. in literature from Lafayette College.
