MY EXPERIENCE OF BEING A SINGLE PARENT WAS VERY CHALLENGING. I RAISED TWO TEENAGERS, WHICH WAS REALLY HARD FOR ME. I HAVE A 22 YEAR OLD WHO JUST GRADUATED FROM COLUMBIA COLLEGE OF CHICAGO AND A 20 YEAR OLD WHO ATTENDS MORAINE VALLEY COLLEGE. FOR ME RAISING CHILDREN OR TEENS ALONE CAN BE CHALLENGING AND VERY HARD IN TODAY'S SOCIETY. MANY TEENS ARE FACE WITH PEER PRESSURE AND NEGATIVE INFLUENCE FROM MUSIC VIDEOS, GANGS, AND DRUGS’. I MANAGED TO RISE ABOVE OF ALL THESE CHALLENGES, AND WAS AND AM DETERMINED TO BUILD EMPOWERING TEENS. MANY TIMES, I HAVE HAD TO FIGHT AND (OR) ADVOCATE FOR MY TEENAGERS OR SOMEONE ELSE. MOST TEENS TODAY DO NOT HAVE ANYONE TO ADVOCATE FOR HIM/HER OR SOMEONE WHO WOULD JUST LISTENS TO THEM. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD A PASSION FOR TEENS (YOUTH).

I REALLY ENJOY GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITIES. IN MY PAST, I HAVE VOLUNTEERED AT THE GIRLS AND BOYS CLUB OF THE TWIN CITIES OF ST. PAUL, MN. I HAVE ALSO PUT TOGETHER A SHOE-N- PURSE DRIVE FOR THE HOMELESS TEENS HERE IN THE CITY OF CHICAGO. LATER I ORGANIZED TEEN SUMMIT, WHICH WAS A SUMMER NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP. MY ROLE BEING A MOTHER FIGURE TO OTHERS IS IMPORTANT TO ME; I WALK AND LEAD BY EXAMPLE. I AM THERE WHEN TEENS ARE IN NEED OF SEEKING ADVICE AND (OR) JUST WANTS SOMEONE TO LISTEN TO THEM. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A BIG INFLUENCE TO MANY TEENS IN MY “WALK OF LIFE!"
