blackgirlsDRAW
Youth Development in Raleigh, NC
Mission:
blackgirlsDRAW uses the introduction to architecture to build leadership and increase self-esteem in young girls of color. Exposing architecture to these young girls helps teach them urban planning and how structures are designed and built.
blackgirlsDRAW is an organization started by an African American female student to introduce other young elementary school girls to the world of architecture with a goal of raising their interest in the architecture. Currently, there are less than 500 registered/licensed African American female architects. The organization hopes to introduce architecture to girls early in hopes of driving up the number of African American female architects in the United States.
The group will hold sessions to introduce young girls to architectural concepts.
