Jess Black has written for children’s television, the RSPCA Animal Tales series, the Bindi Wildlife Adventure series, and the Bindi Behind the Scenes series. She has written over twenty chapter books for primary aged children.
Jess is passionate about storytelling and reading and enjoys interacting with children from Kindergarten to Year 6 in a fun and exciting way. She uses images, storytelling, activities, characterisation and improvisation to help kids create and share their own stories. Her talks leave children excited about the power of books and the joys of reading.
Jess is adaptable to a school’s needs and can tailor the presentation accordingly. She presents on a range of topics including narrative writing, the stages of narrative, digital storytelling, the creation of characters and setting, her own writing process and the benefits of reading. She also runs writing workshops.
Jess has acted and directed in theatre and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Film with Honours in Theatre Directing. She lives in Newcastle with her husband and two children.
