I am an professor in the School of Interactive Computing in the College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology. At Georgia Tech, I founded and direct the Augmented Environments Lab, which includes the Argon AR Web Project and the AR Game Studio. Along with Ian Bogost, I co-founded and co-directed the Georgia Tech Game Studio. My research focuses on the design and implementation of interactive mixed-reality and augmented-reality software, games and experiences, aimed at understanding the potential of AR as a new medium for games, entertainment, education and work.

I have been doing research in augmented reality since 1991, and have worked on projects ranging from industrial and military uses of AR, through games, education and art. Most of my work is collaborative, including colleagues here at Georgia Tech, as well as places as diverse as the Naval Research Lab and the Savannah College of Art and Design. I consult regularly with industry on topics related to AR, with companies big and small, in industries as diverse as chip manufacturing and video games. In 2008, Maribeth Gandy Coleman and I started the AR design and consulting firm Aura Interactive, to support our growing consulting, game design and interactive AR media work.

I received a Ph.D. from Columbia University in the City of New York in 1998, and B.Math and M.Math degrees in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo in Canada in 1989 and 1991.
