From bikes to skis to airplanes, Blake's passion for moving through the environment and tinkering with machines has led him to a career in mechanical engineering. Blake began his career in grad school designing payloads for stratospheric balloon science. Planning and executing the balloon flights was a perfect fit as Blake was concurrently exploring the Sierra around Lake Tahoe and many mountain ranges in the interior of Nevada looking for unique skiing experiences. Blake's next step was moving to southern California to work for Paul MacCready's Aerovironment. Here he cut his teeth in small unmanned aircraft design and flight testing. Seeking to move on to work in larger manned aircraft, Blake then went to work at Scaled Composites in the Mojave desert. Here his skills were sharpened designing and fabricating large composite structure for the world's biggest airplane Stratolaunch. Blake is now designing cutting edge aerospace products at Swift Engineering in San Clemente Ca.
In his time away from work, Blake is either in the mountains on skis, riding his mountain bike, or flying aerobatics or tow planes.
