Bland Hoke

Although his name might suggest the contrary, Bland is on a mission to make you wonder. Whether it is upcycling exotic scrap or using ski lifts as musical carousels, Bland is keen on making creative ideas that speak for themselves.

In 2013, he co-founded By Design LLC—a multi-media research and design studio that collaborates with individuals and organizations around the globe to produce environments that catalyze curiosity. His work results in installations, functional amenities, events and placemaking projects.

Bland has been awarded an Innovation by Design award from Fast Company, presented at Design INDABA in Cape Town, South Africa and worked in Vladivostok Russia. In short, Bland thrives on resourceful thinking and serendipity to produce unexpected ideas. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn NY and is planning a westward move to Oakland CA.
