Vedic astrology is based on pure mathematical calcutions which are based on the time of your birth, the date of your birth and place of birth. For example, Sun rules a person's life for 6 years, Moon rules it for 10 years, Mercury rules it for 17 years, Venus rules it for 20 years, Mars rules it for 7 year, Jupiter rules it for 16 years and Saturn rules it for 19 years. The Moon's nodes, Rahu rules it for 18 years and Ketu for 7 years.

During its planetary rule, a planet will manifest all the indications it is connected to in your birth chart. If the planet is well disposed in your birth chart it will bring good things...but if it is not than it brings problems.

Such problems, however, can be overcome through reciting rectifying mantras as sound is known to change the vibrations around you. Fasting or donating specific things can deplete negative energy around you and therefore help improve your life for the better.

However, many times a planet which is well disposed towards you is too young by degree to help you the way it should, so wearing a gemstone for that planet will harness the light wave which hits our planet from the planet's position in space just like sunlight or moonlight hits our planet.
