Bo Twumasi
Dallas, Texas, United States
I go by Bo, but I have several other names on my birth certificate: Ohene Bo Ankamah Kwaku Oraku Twumasi Jr. Yes, a Junior! It seems exotic, but my name is actually pretty standard in Ghana. Though I’ve lived my entire life in the U.S., my name reminds me of my heritage for which I am proud. My sole trip to my parents’ homeland in my early teens is one of my fondest memories.
Though both Ghanaian, my parents met as grad students at the University of Minnesota. Their careers as a biochemist and consultant led us to Minnesota, Virginia, Delaware, and even Austin. My childhood tour ended with high school in Massachusetts and college in Tennessee.
After graduating from Vanderbilt in Mechanical Engineering, I started a career as a design engineer in Dallas and became both a licensed professional LEED-Accredited engineer. Outside of work, I enjoy planning social events including an annual crawfish boil fundraiser and Vanderbilt alumni activities.
I consider myself a huge sports fan so you can expect to see me at Darrell K Royal Stadium this fall. My path has spread out my favorite teams, so I root for the Minnesota Vikings, the Dallas Mavericks, and of course the Ghana Black Stars.
My life has taken me many different places, but I’ve always been able to cultivate strong friendships. My parents routinely mention Austin as the city they loved the most, so I’m looking forward to being a part of this class and developing friendships with you all. Hook 'em!
