Bo Fulcher

Hey, Im Bo Fulcher and I'm a mechanical engineering student at UGA. I am going to keep my introduction short and get straight to a real joy in my life… Racing. I love all kinds of motorsports, but more specifically I enjoy Dirt Late Model racing. For most people reading this you probably don't know what that is so I will explain a little background info first. A Dirt Late Model is a tube chassis car designed for racing on dirt oval tracks ranging from ¼ - ½ miles long. There is all sorts of info and rules, engine specs, suspension, and aero I could go on forever about. But I will save that for another day. To sum it up, these race cars go fast, turn left, and are just as awesome to watch as they are to drive. As a kid, I watched my dad and grandad race for years. They won, they lost, but almost every time they got out their car they had a smile on their face. I knew I had to get a taste. Just the adrenaline you get standing at the track fence, watching a car blow past over 100 miles an hour and shaking the ground like a fighter jet on the beach gave me a itch I had to scratch. So I learned and learned; working on the cars for years and years. I memorized every bolt, nut, shock number, fuel level, psi, I mean every mechanical aspect of the car. Then on weekends I would watch my family race at the track. I learned the lines, overtaking, tire/fuel conservation, and how to read the cars all before I ever sat in the driver seat. Finally I gained enough experience and trust from my dad. So he gave me a shot at my own race car. I was so exited. I began the beginner class at Senoia Raceway just over a year ago. Since then I've learned a lot. I've raced at various tracks across Georgia and Alabama but mainly at Senoia. I started out slow, and it took time to get the hang of driving a race car. But overall it's been awesome and better than I could've ever imagined. This year I've placed top three in almost all the races I've competed in as well as several 2nd place finishes. Finishing 2nd sucks, “Talladega Nights” taught me that lol. I also won my first race last month, now I'm addicted. But it is the beginner class so it doesn't pay much. Still, racing 30 other competitors and coming out on top is a feeling like no other. I'll continue racing as long as I can, it teaches you a lot, even about life. My main takeaway from racing is that its just like life… You win some and you loose some. But along as you make the most with what you've got and enjoy it, you will always be the real winner.
