Bókay
Our school, the Bókay János Humán Szakközépiskola, has always been commited to international projects even before starting bilingual education.
As a start our students travelled to France to visit our partner school Lycée Georges Colomb in Lure, already in the mid-90's. Then one step led to the next, we got in contact with Udens College (Kruisheren Kollege that time), started student exchanges with them and in 1997 became the first Central-European school which got sponsoring from the EU fund, Socrates.
We took Socrates aims very seriously, "To strengthen the European dimension of education at all levels" and "To improve knowledge of European languages.” We built up and improved our exchange-methodology with our Dutch colleagues and as exchanges got popular among our students and their families we dared to try new contacts. We had exchange programmes with Kapelle-op-den-Bosch in Belgium for many years and we have been working with our Portuguese colleagues from Escola Secundária Daniel Sampaio, Sobreda since 2007.
Besides the exchanges we got involved in other international projects ILIAS, ILIUM, CIVITAS, ICARUS, ACTIVE all sponsored by the European Comission's educational programmes. Since the beginning about 450 students of Bókay János Humán Szakközépiskola have participated in international projects organized by a team of our dedicated teachers.
Now, in 2014, the European Comission has announced its new programme, ERASMUS PLUS "to
overcome the socio-economic crisis affecting European countries, to boost growth and
jobs and to foster social equity and inclusion."
This is a noble enough aim to document its phases on this blog.
