A wildlife ecologist and veterinarian, Cristián Bonacic, DVM., M.Sc. (wildlife manage-ment) & DPhil (Oxon) (48), married, 4 children is a specialist on wildlife conservation and sustainable use in the Andean region of South America. He has been responsible for applied research in wildlife ecology, behaviour, sustainable use and conservation since 1991. he main focus of his research combines problem-solving approaches for key wildlife issues and animal welfare research. Specific projects have aimed at biodiversity conservation in relation to Andean Deer (Darwin Initiative (162/09/014) & Wellcome Trust), sustainable use of vicuña & guanacos (INCO-DEV) and carnivore-livestock conflicts (Darwin Initiative 15/006). Chilean and International Agencies have funded research about wildlife in the altiplano ecosystem, Mediterranean zone, rainforest, and Patagonia. Currently he is developing his interest in linking business and biodiversity conservation in Chile in a series of industry-funded projects.
