bail bond
Getting arrested, for any reason, can be a harrowing time both for the individual who is being arrested and his family. Depending upon the seriousness of the charges, an arrest can even ruin the career of a suspect! After an initial arrest it could take weeks or months for a trial to begin, and if kept in jail, it could cause considerable financial loss and not to mention the time spent away from family and loved ones waiting for the trial to begin. This is where bail comes in. A bail secures the release of a suspect accused of a crime in exchange of property or money deposited or pledged to a court of law in order to secure the release of a suspect on the understanding that he/she would return for the trial when it begins and recover the bail amount.
The process of bail began in medieval England when the sheriffs, who held sovereign authority to arrest and release individuals, began started asking for an amount of money in order to secure the release of an arrested individual on the promise that they would appear in court. This process was further refined and many different countries started using the system of bail, modified suitably by each country according to their laws.
The bail process can be a tricky one to understand, especially for a layman. The process begins when an individual is first arrested by the police and taken to a police station to be booked. The police officers present at the station then record all the vital information of the suspect like name, address, date of birth, appearance and the crime that the suspect is accused of along with taking pictures and fingerprints of the suspect. The suspect is then put in a holding cell and depending upon the severity of the charges under which they are booked, they can apply for bail immediately or wait for a bail hearing, where a judge determines if the suspect is eligible for bail or not and the amount of the bail if they are eligible.
The amount of bail varies in different countries and in United States it varies from state to state. The state of California is said to set the highest bail amounts compared to other states.
A suspect can also take help from various bail bond agencies which offer their services by providing bail bonds to suspects so that they can secure their release from custody and prepare for the trial by hiring a lawyer if required. There are many bail bonds agen
