Ever since I can remember, I've been fascinated with the magazine industry. How those glossy pages are put together to how the pictures are taken. I wanted to be part of it, all of it. I began my creative journey in high school operating my own little interior design business where I would redecorate teens rooms. I was featured in the Ottawa Citizen and appeared on Daytime television promoting my services. I then ventured to Montreal, Quebec where I studied in Creative Arts Literature and languages for 2 years. I learned how to operate professional video camera equipment to photographic equipment and photoshop.
Of course after a couple years of school, it was time to do what everybody is supposed to do after college...travel! I backpacked all over Europe for 2.5 months. This trip was truly enlightening. I saw incredible things which opened my eyes to a world of possibilities. I knew then that I wanted travel to be a significant part of my life.
Algonquin college was the next step for me. I graduated from Print Media which really allowed me to fully develop my photoshop, illustrator and indesign skills, essential in working for a magazine. I even got to work on a printing press, not my strongest skill! Afterwards, I was accepted as head designer for an online magazine called Substance. I was picking fonts, approving pictures and composing layouts. It was my dream! However, some dreams are just too good to be true. As it turns out, Substance did not have enough funds to continue.
I recently starting working for the Northeastern Ontario Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative as a Program Coordinator! Being able to use the skills I've acquired over the years brings me great joy! My passion for entrepreneurship, creativity and insatiable thirst for knowledgeis what I hope to be able to instill in the youth of the Northern Ontario!
