I am a Los Angeles based documentary and television writer and producer and hip-hop personality aka as Bookworm Brown.
I was raised in San Gabriel Valley and attended Bassett High School where I participated in the Harvey Mudd College Upward Bound program.
After graduating from Bassett, I gained admission to Brandeis University's Transitional Year Program. Before heading to Brandeis, though, I underwent a "born again" conversion after being invited to an evangelical crusade.
That began a 10 year journey ('92-'02) within American-Evangelicalism that included time as a Sunday school teacher at a Kor-Am church in East LA, a seminarian and rapping evangelist. I wrote on faith, music and youth culture for magazines like Christianity Today, Sojourners, and Regeneration Quarterly and performed/spoke at schools, churches and conferences across the US and Japan.
After Brandeis, I attended Occidental where I wrote for the student newspaper, led a Xtian fellowship, played championship caliber intramural sports and made lifelong friends. Shorlty after Oxy, I was awarded a Durfee Foundation grant that allowed me and the homie to study food in China for 6 weeks.
After, Oxy I earned an MA in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics at Talbot School of Theology at Biola University. After Talbot, I spent 6 months backpacking throu
