Doug Fenton

My name is Doug Fenton. I am 45 years old, married and have a 17 year old boy. I have worked in manufacturing for the last 25 years and have recently resigned from my job. My wife, whom I have been married to for the last 24 years, has worked at Mesa Public Schools as an Instructional Aid for Special Needs children for the last 8 years. I am a Philadelphia Eagles fan and enjoy playing Fantasy Football with friends. I am also a World of Warcraft junkie and enjoy playing player vs. player in the game. I do enjoy the outdoors and like to go fishing and camping. Music is something that I have always enjoyed. While I am a Metal Head at heart, I enjoy many different genres such as rap, pop, jazz and even some country.

I resigned from Intel after 18 years so that I could go back to school and seek a career change in Information Technology. My background while working in manufacturing, consist of troubleshooting equipment and process related issues. After discovering that I like to game, I took an interest in building my own computers. Through that process I learned that I enjoyed troubleshooting hardware and software related issues that I ran into while building the computers and managing the software. While I excelled at my job with Intel, age was catching up with me and I found that the more physical tasks were becoming more and more challenging. As I am only getting older, I felt that it was time to get into a field that was less physically demanding yet one that I could apply my life long acquired skills of troubleshooting and combined it with an area of interest in computers and technology. I currently am enrolled in the Computer Hardware/Desktop Support program at Chandler Gilbert Community College with the expectation of initially gaining a Certificate of Completion in the program. I would like to gain CompTIA A+ Certification which would ultimately present an opportunity for me to gain an entry level position in an IT related field. I plan to continue my education once securing a job so that I can obtain an Associate in Applied Science in Computer and Information Technology. 5 years from now I would like to be employed in a Help Desk/User Support role preferably in a medical setting as I believe there will be a strong demand as the medical industry is currently converting from paper to Electronic Health Records.

Working in manufacturing presented daily challenges in working with peers and customers, and while I have acquired skills in managing these relationships, I hope this class allows me to refine these skills so that I can apply them in my future career as a Help Desk/Support Technician. I anticipate gaining the knowledge required to pass the CompTIA A+ Certification test as well by taking this class.
