I am a linguaphile with a passion for people, travel, and new experiences. I'm an Arkansas native, but I've managed to make it beyond the borders of my home state (and country) on more than one occasion. I have worked and studied abroad in England, Belize, and Italy, and I have traveled extensively throughout Europe. Some of my most memorable international experiences include completing my first half marathon in Trieste, Italy and riding a camel to the pyramids in Cairo, although eating barracuda in Belize also tops my list.
I currently work with a non-profit and a start-up social business focused on Nairobi, Kenya. Both organizations are devoted to empowering the poor living in the slums on the outskirts of Nairobi. The size of these organizations has allowed me to wear many hats and fulfill many professional roles: I've provided communications strategy consulting, offered input related to long-term strategic plans, and managed public relations for a New York Fashion Week debut. The nonprofit I work with focuses on addressing poverty through a variety of programs, including orphan care, education, vocational training, and clean water projects. The business is dedicated to using fashion as a means to employ Kenyan seamstresses and invigorate the local economy. Seamstresses are trained to manufacture high-end designs for sale in western markets. All employees are compensated with fair wages and fabrics are locally sourced.
I love the satisfaction that accompanies achievement through effective teamwork, and I love working to improve others' lives domestically and internationally.
