I was raised in a time and place that truly seems enchanted to me. The values and love instilled in me comes from a deep sense of belonging to a very special place in this world called Cape Breton Island.
As a child I found myself growing up in a family that knows its history as part of a rich cultural tapestry, seen by me as the center of the world at the edge of a continent. There was never too much and never too little, and I had a great good fortune of learning to see the world as an extension of my home.
Mexico is my struggle now. I see her as the umbilical cord of the world, she is so incredibly diverse and rich. She represents all of the beauty and all of the suffering in the world today, a metaphor to the paradox of our beautiful world, self-destruction, faith and hope.
