I have been in the financial services industry for 25 years, for many years I was the person who ran recruiting for a branch, then an OSJ, and eventually a broker-dealer. I was a founder of an IBD that grew to size, from more or less a producer group to over 1,000 broker/advisors and over $180 million in revenue.

At one time or another I was the CFO, COO and reporting FINOP. I filed over 100 FOCUS reports and was the liaison to clearing firms and regulators. I like to think I understand the business from both sides.

At IBD we spend a lot of time getting to know our placements and work hard to seek firms that have the right offering, platform, and culture where their business will fit.

We only do business with firms that have good regulatory and disclosures histories and negligible litigation logs, further; our BD clients must have a quality, experienced, and available executives, as well as having a long history of being well capitalized. We visit our BD partners home offices, meet with all "C" level executives, read their annual reports; review their net capital computations, their litigation logs, read the Notice to Members, Disciplinary Actions, and talk to clearing firms, regulators, producers and colleagues. In other words we know our placement candidates and my BD clients very well.

Most likely, our process is not unlike how a producer qualifies a new client. You gather the relevant data; you identify the clients' objectives, analyze their current status, understand the client's goals, and make a recommendation. We utilize the same process.

At IBD we work closely with 38 firms on a non-exclusive basis, those firms pays our fees while we maintain 100% advocacy to the producer. We do the heavy lifting so both the BD and placement can focus on today's business and servicing their clients. Instead of "peeling the onion" themselves we give the firm and the placement the opportunity to make a solid business decisions saving them time and money.
