When I was growing up, my dad served as a councilman for more than 16 years. Watching him campaign and earn the trust of constituents piqued my curiosity for politics. Utilizing my communication skills to assist him in campaigning ultimately led me to want to be a mass communication major and a storyteller. I look forward to using the skills I value as a communicator such as social media, writing and being digitally savvy.

I assisted with the planning and execution of large-scale events like the Miss USA pageant, as well as created and implemented a social media plan for my family’s small business, Country Cuisine. Most recently, in working with my family’s restaurant, I’ve begun using social media to gain interaction and engagement with returning and potential customers. With the application of my strategic social media campaign, Country Cuisine sales have nearly doubled from 200 to about 400 plates sold on weekends.

I worked as a student reporter for LSU’s news station Tiger TV where I created stories, including a feature on former LSU cheerleading coach Chico Garcia, who was paralyzed in a boating accident. I also reported to our student newspaper, The Daily Reveille, which was recently voted the top student newspaper in the country. Since being on staff, I wrote stories ranging from performer Jamie Lynn Spears’ return to music, to a showcase on LSU students backpacking through Europe using Red Bull drink as their only bargaining tool. My story with Jamie Lynn had more than 2,500 page views in the first month. I currently serve as the press secretary for the student body at LSU.

One of my skill sets includes crafting social media campaigns, blogging and branding. Also, I have used editing video software through programs such as Edius, and I use In-Copy to finish and refine broadcast and print stories. I also know how to create media kits, press releases and radio ads, having done so for BRAVE in Baton Rouge, a nonprofit organization. The messages I helped create and disseminate reached thousands of people for the Family Fun Day campaign, a movement to end violence in Baton Rouge.
