Has there ever been an activity in your life that you just can’t let go of? Well, at the age of 5, I began competing in baton twirling. I loved it. I would go to the gym every day with my mom to practice. I wanted to be the best and my mom understood that. She was a competitive baton twirler as well, so it was easy to take corrections from her.
It wasn’t until I was 10 that I quickly got burned out from practicing and competing. I had won several titles such as Miss Majorette of America, World Strut Champion, and many others. I had accomplished all of my goals and was ready to hang my batons up.
Once my senior year came around, I realized that I wanted to twirl at a major college university. I went to several tryouts. From Louisville, Kentucky to West Virginia University to The University of Georgia. I wasn’t quite satisfied with any of my tryout performances other than the one at UGA. Then it hit me, I wanted to become a Georgia Bulldog. Being from West Virginia, my parents were having a rather difficult time wrapping their minds around the thought of their “baby” moving 10 hours away from home. However, I absolutely love what I do and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Game days in Athens is truly unforgettable. Twirling in front of 95,000 fans is a feeling so few get to experience. I have been blessed with a wonderful opportunity and will cherish every moment for the next 3 years.
