Brandi Hightower
Seattle, WA
Currently: National Collegiate Scholar Alumni finishing BS-ITAM @ Central Washington University Des Moines.
Searching for: A part time or internship opportunity which utilizes the technological coursework of my IT degree and that utilizes my business skills obtained from previous company management positions.
You'll find me: plugged in, blogging for Ink&Mice, taking random art and fitness classes, attending Meetup.com events with the Bitcoin Enthusiasts, Women Who Code, Girl Develop It, and other tech conferences.
Technical Proficiencies: My Right Brain loves my Macbook for music and graphics editing and sample looping and video making - all hobbies of mine. My Dell Latitude E5540 is condusive to my major right now with a much wider screen and core i3 processor. To become proficient in both operating systems has helped me think in terms of development and responsive design capabilites and I am beginning to learn the language of developers. I am familiar with Office Ally, the online medical billing software program as well as Point of Sales systems.
Closing thoughts: Born in the early 80's I was instantly drawn to technology but my limited math skills and frankly the technology itself scared me. I started at one of the lowest levels, Math90, at my community college in Wenatchee; I have worked extra hard to bring my skills up and now I am a National Collegiate Scholar.
I truly believe that a person can only be held back by limitations if they don't push them. I worked very hard to perservere through classes I didn't like, retook a failed math course twice, and gained a tremendous respect for the process of hard work as I have seen the potential unlocking within myself. Now, I hope to mentor other women in the S.T.E.M. fields upon securing an internship opportunity and bachelor's degree.
