I was born and raised primarily in Michigan and, as the eldest of five boys, became a teacher at a very young age.
I attended college at Western Michigan University where I received a B.A. in both Philosophy and English Education.
While my intellectual pursuits were focused on writing, philosophy, research, and politics, throughout college, I had a variety of other interests and hobbies that occupied a great deal of my free time.
They included:
- Particle physics research
- Stage combat and sword-fighting
- Medieval historical research
- Egyptian cultural research (language, history, religion,
- Music performance and composition
- 2-Dimensional art
- Scale model landscaping and painting
- Photography
- Independent cinematic reviews
While these hobbies do not represent an exclusive list of my interests they did occupy a great deal of my time and study throughout my college experience and continue to do so into my adult life.
In addition to spending my free time on my various interests, I was also a member of the “Bronco Marching Band” and Phi Mu Alpha (men’s music fraternity) during my school years. These memberships have given me a variety of amazing personal connections to a host of highly professional and talented individuals.
After college I spent my first two years of teaching at Ridgeview High School in Bakersfield California. While there I began the Bakersfield “Youth Poetry-Slam” movement and created a program for creative writing, poetry, and performance. After the economic crisis of 2009 I moved back to Michigan to be near family and began working as a substitute teacher for P.E.S.G. (Multi-district substitute service).
Along with working at P.E.S.G. I also worked at my family’s business, Landslide Skate Park (www.landslidesk8.com). There, I worked as a cashier, assistant manager, and editorial consultant.
Currently I find myself continuing a career at Cornerstone Leadership and Business High school, maintaining an active family life with my daughter Reighlynn, and developing a host of new programs here at the school.
I regularly look forward to working with the wonderful community of students, their supportive families, and the dedicated and talented staff here at LBHS as we continue to improve up
