I am the founder and director of CascadiaNow!, a 501(c)3 fiscal sponsorship organization and social movement that works to empower every person to be active and engaged in the issues that they care most about.
Aside from educating about bioregionalism and the Cascadia bioregion, we provide backend services that many groups need, but very few have access too such as IRS accounting and reporting, insurance liability, grant and fundraising support, and serve as a bridge and incubator for community organizations to become their own non-profit program or standalone 501(c)3.
We talk about a cultural shift, because culture is the sum of our actions, and we can each have an impact. We use the Cascadia bioregion - the Pacific Northwest of the US and Canada, as a framework to break down global issues to a local level, and to connect people with those already making the important changes needed. Using lessons learned in past movements, we also provide place based hubs that serve as an accountable framework for decentralized and democratic organizing, and for building models and tools that help us fit into larger systems around mutual support, and that is local, sustainable and ethical.
Started as a community group in 2005, and finally becoming a non-profit in 2014, we have since grown to more than six lovely part time staff, 21 sponsored programs, as well as ambassadors and chapters throughout the bioregion, reaching tens of thousands of individuals annually.
Previously, I received a post-graduate certificate for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Seattle University after graduating in 2012, and spent a year working in Beijing teaching Business English for the German and French Chambers of Commerce, Audi R&D, and Medical English for a wide range of doctors, nurses, TCM practicitioners, as well as members of their government and CDC, before becoming a copywriter for a pilot Volkswagen carsharing project – the first in China.
In 2011 I lived in Tunisia studying the political transition from dictatorship to democracy, documenting the one year anniversary of the Arab Spring, and researching street art and reclamation of public space.
I am from Seattle, WA and graduated from the University of Washington in 2012 in History and Public Health. I am a former Wilderness First Responder (2008), and became a Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT-B) and Medical Personnel in Charge (MPIC) in 2009. Startin
