Kelly graduated from Kent State University with a degree in communications, and received her MFA in creative writing from Lesley University. She has been awarded fellowships/residencies from FemFuture, Creative Capital, Cave Canem, Fine Arts Work Center and the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland.
Her poems have appeared in High-Impact Writing Clinics: Classroom-Ready Lessons for Building Content Literacy Through Poetry, Say It Loud: Poems for James Brown, Yale University's Caduceus, PMS, The Southern Women's Review, and many other publications.
She lives in New Orleans with her husband and daughter.
