Jess Breen

Amherst, Massachusetts, United States

Hi, My name is Jessica Breen and I am a Junior in the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst. I am a Hospitality and Tourism Management major with a focus in Retail and Sales.

Doesn't everyone love a new pair of shoes, or that newest phone they just came out with, or that delicious cup of coffee from Starbucks? Yep. Me too. I have always had an interest in retail and the newest up and coming "hot" item. I love clothing, and I love materialistic objects just as much as anyone else in 2014. I have always been interested in retail and I have always been an avid shopper.

My first retail job I ever had was at JCPenney. Through this job I learned alot about customer service, retail, and working closely with fellow associates. It was in this job that I realized my true passion for the industry and I began to feel the need to expand my knowledge in different areas of Retail and customer service.

My second job I ever held was at a tea store in the mall called Teavana. At this job I realized my true passion for customer service and sales. This job required me to constantly interact 1 on 1 with customers, teach them about new and exciting products, and give them an enjoyable experience in the store.

Everything about this job made me know that I needed to advance in a career with sales and retail both. It is these two jobs that have shaped my focus in my career and my focus in applying for internships, etc. I hope that one day I can take my talents and excitement about the retail world and gain a respectable position for a well known company. I believe that retail is a hidden gem, and an area of work that will never lack the demand for talented leaders and people with a knack for customer service. Nobody will ever stop needing the basic necessities of life that many retail outlets and suppliers offer, and I think many fail to realize that.

You can definitley say I have a passion that lies within retail and customer service that cannot be matched. It is my experience in my previous job, my overly social and outgoing person, and my belief that retail will always be a successful field that makes me so passionate about someday holding a career in this area. Customer service is a rewarding skill to have, and an important one in todays business world. My major in HTM has taught me the importance of customer service in all aspects of life.
