Hey, I’m Brendan. I’m a student currently living in Guelph but originally from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I am a fan of music, travel, and hiking. I’m also interested in sports and science. I am currently attending the university of Guelph studying biological science. Besides biological sciences, another main interest is in sports. I have competitively played hockey, lacrosse and basketball. I am avid fan of the Toronto Raptors, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Chicago Bears.

While I have interest in many different scientific fields, my true passion is in wildlife conservation. I believe that protection of biodiversity is of the upmost importance and I hope to make my own contributions to this cause.

I have been lucky enough gain some experience studying neotropical rain forests and coral reefs, two of the most complex ecosystems on our planet, and witnessed the evidence of their degradation due to human involvement. In the future I hope that I can use my career to help prevent further loss of important ecosystems and biodiversity. Someone in the science world that inspired me is Steve Irwin. From a very young age I would always watch his videos (I owned most of them on VHS) and I was amazed by his connection to animals. Steve was willing to risk his life just to show to show people that animals are not to be feared but to be cherished. More recently I have been inspired by his conservation efforts. The income that was generated from his television fame was all put into his personal conservation efforts: buying up land to create protected wildlife reserves and creating the Australia zoo. He dedicated his life to protecting biodiversity. "If we save our wild places, we will ultimately save ourselves" - Steve Irwin.

I have been trying to aim my career path to reach my intended field and so far I feel I have been making progress. My first jobs were working in retail and in a warehouse. I then began working for a marketing company, furthering my personal and professional communication skills. I then worked as a talent adviser, recruiting people for various jobs. My most recent job is were I really felt progress was being made. I worked as an animal educator for Safari Science. I would bring all kinds of different animals to schools, camps, and peoples homes to give presentations about the different animals and give kids the ability to actually interact with the animals in a safe environment. I hope to continue on this path of educating people about science.
