The path to my career as a writer, editor, podcaster, blogger, and social media maven spans more than thirty years and winds through stints as a furnace installer, a big-rig truck driver, and a car salesman -- including more than 15 years working in a violin factory. I began freelance writing in my spare time in 1990. My work has appeared in a variety of regional and national publications. That freelance writing lead to a job in 1997 as a staff editor at Books.com -- the original online book store. That was the gateway to positions at a succession of software companies, including Flashline, BEA Systems, and now Oracle, where I manage the software architect community on the Oracle Technology Network, Oracle's 4 million-plus member community portal. In that role I also produce and host the OTN ArchBeat Podcast, and I write the Architect Community column for Oracle Magazine. In my spare time I continue to do some freelance work, including a series of iPad game review videos (example) for Sideways LLC. I also sing and play guitar, mandolin, and steel guitar in The Elderly Brothers
